Each year, many international cycling races pass through Villars and the surrounding municipality of Ollon. With pleasant roads, moderate traffic, proximity to the UCI World Cycling Centre, and legendary climbs like the Col de la Croix, Villars is a favourite for road cyclists.
Our suggested route: The Col de la Croix
Starting in Villars, climb the Col de la Croix, descend to Aigle, then take on the final climb via Bex and Gryon.
Insider tip: Take in the stunning view of the Grand Muveran (3,051 m) on your way back up through Gryon – it’ll help you forget the fatigue!

Gravel biking has been gaining popularity in recent years, offering a mix of paved roads, gravel tracks and forest trails. Villars has been hosting the UCI Gravel events for several years and is set to host the World Championships in 2029.

An epic loop from Villars, ideal for adventurers seeking technical sections, rewarding climbs and breathtaking vistas.
Insider tip: Stop in L’Etivaz at kilometre 45 – you’re halfway there and it’s the perfect place to sample the region’s famous cheese at the Maison de L’Etivaz.

From spring to autumn, Villars is a mountain biking haven, offering a wide range of trails from easy to highly technical. With panoramic viewpoints, alpine huts and unique natural features along the way, hop on your mountain bike and set off for adventure.
Our suggested route: The Panoramic Trail
This MTB route from Bretaye is technically easy – perfect for stopping by Lac des Chavonnes, discovering the gypsum pyramids or taking a break at the Col de la Croix alpine pasture.
Insider tip: Stop at the Col de la Croix alpine hut for a refreshing drink or to try some delicious farm products.

All the joys of cycling – with a little extra boost! E-bikes make climbing hills easier, whatever your fitness level. In Villars, e-bike routes lead you into the mountains to discover alpine pastures and hidden treasures.
Our suggested route: The Ridge Tour
This beautiful electric bike ride takes you through the picturesque hamlet of Taveyanne, the Col de la Croix pastures, Lac des Chavonnes and Bretaye. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of ideal spots to pause, admire the view or sample a local delicacy.
Insider tip: On a sunny day, dip your feet in the emerald waters of Lac des Chavonnes or simply relax on its shore.

5. The Unmissable Downhill MTB Route in Villars
For thrill-seekers who love a challenge, Villars also offers two downhill mountain bike trails. A new trail starting from Grand Chamossaire will open in summer 2025.
Our suggested route: The Maxi-Avalanche
This advanced-level downhill MTB trail offers 13 km of descent, starting from the Roc d'Orsay and finishing in Bévieux. Return to Villars by train on the Bex–Villars line.
Insider tip: This trail can be ridden almost all year round. You can also start your descent from Villars itself, from the Rendez-Vous square.
